I was cleaning up the studio yesterday and found this old study. I can't remember when I did it or what it was for.

THE DOLL PEOPLE SET SAIL
A couple of years ago I was asked to illustrate the 4th book in Ann Martin and Laura Godwin's Doll People series. It was a great honor and after a lot of work it's finally here. I just got my first copy last week. Above is a shot of the cover and below are two of the interior images. The book will be available in about two weeks, I hope you will
give it a look.

NEW PICTURE BOOK: GROUNDHOG'S DAY OFF
I've started painting GROUNDHOG'S DAY OFF. It's always a good day when I can finally start painting. Making a book is all hard work until I get to start painting. Now the fun begins.

FAVORITE ILLUSTRATIONS: RAGGEDY ANN
I was recently visiting my wife's parents in Utah and I found an old copy of the "Adventures of Raggedy Ann", written and illustrated by Johnny Gruelle. I don't know anything about him but I thought the ink drawings were great. These were two of my favorites. They're quite simple, nice line work and not a lot of hatching. I also like the use of the solid blacks, very well composed.

THE BLACK ARROW
I've been reading "The Black Arrow" by Robert Louis Stevenson. I read it and loved it a long time ago and I'm enjoying reading it again. It's made want to make some pictures. Above are a couple of my rough starts and below a little inspiration from N.C Wyeth. We'll see where it goes. Have a great long weekend everybody, and do some drawing.

BEAUTIFUL IMAGES FOR SPRING
After enduring the long winter my kids an I have been enjoying seeing the blossoms and birds near our home in Brooklyn. It's reminded me of these beautiful prints by Hokusai. Years ago when I was an unhappy engineering student I fell in love with Chinese painting and Japanese printmaking. It was images like these that inspired me to start painting. I hope you're all having a lovely spring.

NEW PAINTING
I haven't posted for a while. I've been consumed with finishing a new book. I'll post some of that work soon. I'm getting ready to start some new projects but I decided to take a few days and just paint, something I haven't done in a long time. When I do get the chance to draw or paint what I want it's usually a face. Here's what I came up with this time.
